A rider was killed while a policeman was injured during an armed encounter along the national highway in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.
According to the Police Regional Office-SOCCSKSARGEN (PRO-12), personnel of the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Highway Patrol Team (SKPHPT) flagged down a minivan at a checkpoint for an alleged violation.
While authorities were escorting the vehicle to the SKPHPT Office for impoundment, the rider suddenly allegedly fired shots at one of the police officers.
The policeman returned fire and hit the suspect. The suspect’s companions escaped.
The suspect did not reach the hospital alive while the policeman is recuperating, as of this writing.
PRO-12 Director, Brigadier General Arnold Ardiente, visited the wounded cop and handed over cash assistance to cover his medical and hospitalization expenses.
“PRO 12 is fully committed to upholding the law, but your cooperation is crucial. Together, we can build a safer, stronger community and make a lasting impact. Rest assured; these suspects will face the full force of the law,” Ardiente said.
