Two gun ban violators were arrested on the first day of the Regular COMELEC Checkpoint in Region 6 (Western Visayas) on January 12, 2025.
Atty. Dennis Ausan, regional director of the Commission on Elections 6, in an interview with GMA Super Radyo Iloilo, disclosed that there were two violators apprehended on the first day of the implementation of the COMELEC gun ban.
One of the violators identified only as a certain “Ryan,” a businessman, was driving his pickup truck but rammed into a kiosk where rice cakes (bibingka) are sold in Barangay Seminaryo, Jaro District. The incident happened at 1:10 a.m. on January 12, 2025.
Recovered from the driver's seat are two types of pistols, ammunition, armalite rifle, magazines, and other types of bullets.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Republic Act 7166 COMELEC Gun Ban, are up against the suspect, as of this writing.
Meanwhile, a firearm was seized from a suspect in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Sublangon, Pontevedra town in the Province of Capiz.
According to Capiz Police Provincial Office, seized from the suspect are a 5.56 revolver with three bullets, buy-bust money worth P500, and three sachets of suspected shabu.
The suspect will face three charges, according to CPPO.
First, on his violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Second, for possession of unlicensed firearm which is a violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation. Third, for violating the COMELEC gun ban.
