Over 1,000 individuals or over 600 families were affected by floodwater in Cadiz City, Province of Negros Occidental.
About nine barangays in the city were inundated, according to the Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Residents living near a river were moved to an evacuation center in the city after floodwater reached neck-deep due to heavy rainfall.
River water in Barangay Andres Bonifacio was reported to have reached critical level.
Floodwater has already receded, as of posting time. However, 15 families continue to stay in the evacuation center while water level is being monitored in their area.
The river may need desilting to be able to accommodate the volume of water, the PDRRMO said.
“Sa ngayon ang areas, subsided na ang water. We are just closely monitoring. I think one of the reasons ay mababaw na ang kanilang creeks and rivers,” Irene Bel Ploteña, head of Negros Occidental PDRRMO, said.
