A speeding dump truck carrying gravel plowed through 13 vehicles and a store in Barangay Carmen West, Rosales, Pangasinan.

The incident happened on Thursday, January 9, 2024.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the truck barreling down Manila North Road before losing control.

It rammed into two SUVs, a car, two pickups, three 10-wheeler trucks, a closed van, three tricycles, and a motorcycle. The truck also hit the front of an establishment.

No fatalities were reported, but several passengers sustained minor injuries.

Police Major Noel Cabacungan, Rosales Police Chief, said the driver claimed the truck’s brakes failed.

“Ang sabi ng driver, nawalan daw ng preno yung kanyang minamanehong dump truck kaya yun na ang resulta, aksidente dun sa area,” he said.

The driver, 22-year-old Reb Aduptante from Nueva Ecija, isa facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple injuries and damage to property.

Aduptante apologized to those affected.

“Humihingi ho ako ng tawad sa inyo. Di ko naman ho kagustuhan yung nangyari, pasensya na ho kayo,” he said.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) found that Aduptante’s license only allowed him to drive vehicles up to 3,500 kilograms gross weight, while the truck weighed 20,000 kilograms.

“Most probably, ire-revoke natin yung lisensya ng driver... Invalid ang kanyang lisensya kasi hanggang 3,500 kg lang ang gross weight na pwede nyang imaneho, pero 20,000 kg ang gross weight ng sasakyan niya,” Martinez explained.
