Face-to-face classes in all levels in public and private schools in Davao City will be suspended on Monday, January 13, 2025, during the ‘National Rally for Peace’ organized by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).
Schools are encouraged to shift to asynchronous mode of learning.
Based on the order issued by the local government, skeleton workforce will also be put in place in all national and local government offices, including government-owned and controlled corporations.
Agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic health, safety and security and social services, disaster and emergency preparedness/response, and/or the performance of other vital services, shall continue with their operations.
Around 300,000 INC members from Davao and SOCCSKSARGEN are expected to attend the rally.
The Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) reminded the public that several streets will be closed temporarily for the event.
These include San Pedro, C.M. Recto, Quirino Avenue, Roxas Avenue, Pelayo St, Palma Gil St., Pichon St., Iñigo St., Bonifacio St., Bangoy St., Ponciano Rotunda, Bolton St., and City Hall Drive.
A rerouting scheme has been put in place to give motorists alternative routes.
Meanwhile, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is set to deploy more than 2,000 personnel to provide security and maintain peace and order during the activity.
“Expected pa pud nga dili lang 300,000… naa pay pipila nga dili mga INC nga willing mo-join the prayer rally… 100 percent ma’am ang support sa rally sa INC sa DCPO,” DCPO Spokesperson, Captain Hazel Caballero, said.
