The Municipality of Ubay in the Province of Bohol is placed under a state of calamity due to the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) in three barangays.
A resolution on the declaration of a state of calamity was passed at the Municipal Council on January 8, 2025 after cases of ASF were logged in three of the 44 barangays.
Ubay town logged 127 animal deaths due to ASF in three barangays – Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Bulilis. These barangays have a total of 650 households that are into backyard hog raising.
“Ang problema nakasulod na ang African Swine Fever sa lungsod sa Ubay. In fact, adunay tulo (3) ka barangays affected sa karun. Maoy request sa 10 barangays including adjacent barangays nga suportahan sila sa financial ilabi na sa checkpoints ug uban pang logistics,” Marianito Doydora, Ubay municipal agriculturist, said.
In Executive Order Number 57, Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado ordered a moratorium on boar hire activities for six months to pad further contagion.
It was learned that the Municipality of Carmen, over 40 kilometers away from Ubay, is also affected by ASF.
Border checkpoints have been tightened to pad further impact of ASF on the local hog industry in the island.
Hog raising in the Province of Bohol is a P6-billion industry.
