The General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO) is intensifying inspection at checkpoints ahead of the implementation of the election gun ban starting January 12, 2025.
“Expect nga naa gyud na ana ang atong checkpoint, Oplan Sita. Naa pud ta ana application of search warrant, katong mga suspected nga naay mga armas mga person,” GSCPO Director, Col. Nicomedes Olaivar Jr., said.
Police said police officers and personnel of other law enforcement agencies are exempted from the gun ban.
Business personalities and candidates may also apply for an exemption.
“Kanang mga businessman, mga pulitiko nato, running for candidacy, naa man silay exemption tungod kay na-evaluate, na-validate na ilang threat assessment,” Olaivar said.
However, the Commission on Elections-SOCCSKSARGEN (COMELEC-12) said those who will apply for an exemption must secure a certificate of authority to carry firearms from COMELEC.
“Kung may interesado at may gusto mo-apply, they could download the COMELEC Resolution No. 11067. Mao na ang resolution nga naa ang mga form nato, application form, for the gun ban exemption. Ang kinahanglan lang, naa sila’y LTOFP (License to Own and Possess firearms). It should be updated. Naa pud sila certificate to carry or bring firearms, COMELEC-12 Assistant Regional Director, Atty. Jose Villanueva, said.
