Two of about six suspects in the robbery of employees of a softdrinks company in Pilar town, Province of Capiz were arrested.

The suspects were identified as John Francis Morenes alias “Rambo” and Gemmarie Daquelanea, both residents of Barangay Gibato, Dumarao town in Capiz.

The two were identified through accounts of witnesses and photographs in the police's Rogue Gallery.

“Pag-check natin sa mga biktima, possibly identified nila ang dalawa that is why sa PNP Capiz, in-effect natin ang arrest sa bayan ng Dumarao kagabi," said Captain Merry Chris de la Cruz, spokesperson of Capiz Police Provincial Office.

Morenes was pinpointed as the person who borrowed a car used as a getaway vehicle. Daquelanea, his alleged accomplice, drove the vehicle.

Morenes borrowed reportedly the vehicle from an in-law in Dingle, Iloilo.

According to the police, it was first reported that there were four robbers but in the ongoing investigation it was determined that the suspects could reach around six persons.

Among those at large is a dismissed policeman, reportedly a resident of Pavia, Iloilo who has a pending case on illegal drugs trade.

Over P3.4 million in cash and cheques worth P1 million were carted away by the robbers.

“Hindi natin kinukuha ang anggulo na baka sa kompanya or mga biktima, may nakapag-tip or sadyang nadulas lang ang dila ng isa sa mga biktimang ito. Baka nag-iinuman sila na nalaman na may ganon silang kalaking pera na dala kapag nagbibiyahe,” Capt. de la Cruz added.

The robbery happened in Barangay Sta. Fe, Pilar, Capiz on January 5, 2025.

The police have also pursued the angle that the incident could be an “inside job.”

Earlier, the victims declared that about P1 million cash was lost to the holduppers. However, the amount reached over P3 million.

The police said the victims might have been confused during the initial investigation.
