A 32-year-old cyclist died after he was hit and ran over by a 10-wheeler tow truck of the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) of Cagayan de Oro.

According to the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), the bicycle and the truck were traveling in the same lane when the truck hit the bicycle, causing the cyclist to fall and got run over by the truck.

“Pag-abot nila sa tunga-tunga, nag-una ang bike ani, na-sideswipe sa maong truck ang maong bisikleta… unfortunately, imbes malabay didto sa paggawas, napaingon na hinuon siya sa sulod, napaon ilawom sa truck,” TEU-COCPO Traffic Investigator, Corporal Bryan Cuhit, said.

The truck driver said he did not notice the bicycle, which was traveling on his right.

Police took custody of the truck driver.

RTA said it is ready to cooperate with the investigation.

“Atong gihulatan ang proper documentation at the same time ang spot reports gikan sa atong traffic investigators,” RTA Spokesperson, James Andrade, said.

As of this writing, police are awaiting the decision of the cyclist’s family on whether or not they will pursue charges against the truck driver.
