A businessman was arrested with alleged smuggled cigarettes worth more than P4 million in Libungan, Cotabato.
Authorities intercepted the transport of 76 boxes and 150 reams of assorted cigarettes worth around P4.2 million during intelligence-driven operation.
According to the Police Regional Office-SOCCSKSARGEN (PRO-12), the 36-year-old suspect failed to present documents for the items.
The suspect and the items seized were turned over to the Libungan Municipal Police Station.
The suspect is facing charges for alleged violation of The Graphic Health Warnings Law (RA 10643).
“Let us contribute to the nation's growth by supporting locally and legally produced goods. Engaging in the illicit cigarette trade not only undermines potential government revenue but also poses significant health risks to the public,” PRO-12 Director, Brigadier General Arnold Ardiente, said.
