A barangay chairman in Datu Salibo, Maguindanao del Sur was shot dead after praying at his house.

Barangay Sambulawan, Datu Salibo Chairman Kameran Abubakar died in the hospital.

Police said he had just finished the Jumu’ah or Friday Prayer when he was shot several times by an unidentified gunman at the balcony.

The victim was not running for any position in the 2025 midterm elections. He also reportedly did not receive death threats.

Authorities are investigating the incident to identify the perpetrator and determine the motive.

The barangay official’s family is also calling for justice.

“Sa ngayon, nangangalap pa kami ng impormasyon at saka mga karagdagan pang ebidensya pati doon sa identity ng mga suspek kasi according doon sa mga kamag-anak, pati sa tao sa barangay, hindi nila kilala yung mga salarin,” Datu salibo Municipal Police Station Chief, Lt. Victor Lim, said.
