A 25-year-old man was shot dead by his own father during an altercation at their house in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte.

The victim was identified as Jovanie Fer Cabat.

He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Police identified the suspect as 58-year-old Fermin Cabat, Jr. who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol during the incident.

Authorities said the suspect allegedly opened fire at his son when the latter intervened when he was figuring with his wife.

Responding officers did not find the firearm used but recovered from the crime scene two magazines of 5.56 and 7.62 caliber firearms, and five spent shell casings.

The suspect was arrested in a hot pursuit operation but refused to provide a statement.

Investigators said jealousy sparked the argument between the suspect and his wife.

The suspect is now facing charges of parricide and illegal possession of firearms. Previously in 2014, he was apprehended for possession of firearm.
