The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Lanao del Norte has ordered a 90-day preventive suspension against Kauswagan Mayor Rommel Arnado for alleged grave abuse of authority and grave misconduct.

The Provincial Board also passed a resolution requesting the governor to implement the order.

The case stemmed from the complaint of the chairwoman of Barangay Bagumbayan who Arnado suspended for allegedly interfering in the operation of the water system in the barangay.

The barangay chairwoman claimed that the suspension was implemented without due process, which was why she filed a complaint before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

According to Lanao del Norte First District Board Member, Atty. Eleuterio Obial, Jr., chairman of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights, the mayor allegedly violated the provision of the Local Government Code, particularly the procedure in suspending an elected official.

Arnado reportedly has yet to receive a copy of the suspension order, as of this writing.

GMA Regional TV One Mindanao tried to reach out to the mayor for comment but he refused to give a statement.
