Five ash emission events and 27 volcanic earthquakes were recorded on Mount Kanlaon on Friday, January 3, 2025.
The five ash emissions spanned five to 116 minutes long, according to a 12 a.m. advisory of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on January 3, 2025.
A total of 27 volcanic earthquakes, including nine volcanic tremors that spanned 14 to 142 minutes long, were also recorded.
Sulfur dioxide flux emissions were measured at 4,861 tons a day, specifically on January 2, 2024.
The ash emission events generated a 300-meter-tall voluminous plume; continuous degassing with occasional ash emissions drifted to the west and northwest of the volcano.
The volcano edifice is inflated, PHIVOLCS added.
Alert Level 3 (increased unrest/magmatic unrest) prevails over Kanlaon Volcano.
