A two-year-old girl sustained burns after the motorcycle she and other family members were riding caught fire in New Bataan, Davao de Oro.
Joefe Recto of the Operation and Warning Section of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said the child got drenched in gasoline when the gasoline tank cover got unfastened when the motorcycle fell.
The motorcycle then went up in flames with the fire engulfing the child.
The girl sustained second-degree burns in the face and body.
“Nag-convoy sila, natumba ang papa… pagkatumba, nasunog. Pagkatumba, natanggal ang taklob sa tangke sa motor ang bata nabasa sa gasoline and then pagkasunog mao diay ang bata ray nasunog gidakop sa kalayo,” he said.
Based on investigation, the girl and her family were heading home to Monkayo, Davao de Oro from Mati City, Davao Oriental on board two motorcycles.
The girl and her sibling were on the motorcycle driven by their father. The other motorcycle was driven by her mother with her other siblings riding in pillion.
Upon reaching Purok 7 in Barangay Camanlangan, New Bataan, the motorcycle driven by the father figured in the accident.
The girl was brought to the hospital for treatment. The other members of the family are safe.
