Authorities arrested two men, including a policeman, for indiscriminate discharge of firearms in Northern Mindanao a week before the new year.
The cop arrested was assigned at the Iligan City Police Office. He allegedly fired his service firearm indiscriminately in Lugait, Misamis Oriental on December 27, 2024.
Based on investigation, the policeman allegedly got angry when his girlfriend broke up with him.
Three empty shells from a 9mm pistol were recovered from the area.
The policeman was placed under restrictive custody and is facing criminal and administrative charges.
"Iyang girlfriend, dili na mag-file og criminal case nga R.A. 9262 but then ipadayon nato ang criminal charges against him,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said.
Meanwhile, another man was arrested for discharging his firearm indiscriminately when he allegedly got mad with a group of teenagers in Tangub City, Misamis Occidental.
Police did not recover the gun used by the man and they are verifying if there is a firearm registered under the man’s name.
The man is facing charges for illegal discharge of firearm.
“I-file gihapon nato ang kasong illegal discharge of firearm batok kaniya,” Navarro added.
