At least eight new fireworks-related injuries (FWRI) were recorded on January 1, 2025 in the Province of Iloilo.
A report of GMA Super Radyo Iloilo said that the new cases have brought the total number of FWRI to 31.
The cases are based on data of the Iloilo Provincial Government “Iwas Paputok” updates.
The 31 FWRI cases were logged from December 21, 2024 to January 1, 2025. Miag-ao town has the most number of cases at six.
Of the 31 FWRI cases, 17 were children ages one year old to 10 years old. At least 16 towns logged FWRI cases.
Majority of the injury cases was caused by “boga,”an improvised cannon made of polyvinyl chloride or PVC, a synthetic plastic used in a variety of applications.
The data were furnished by the Iloilo Provincial Health Office that pointed out the “case counts are subject to change after inclusion of delayed reports and verified cases.”
