Tourist spots in La Union and Pangasinan welcomed large crowds on New Year’s Day, with families celebrating by the sea and in parks, as authorities issued safety warnings about strong waves.
In Agoo, La Union, the Tria family started 2025 with a thanksgiving Mass.
“Magkaisa talaga ang prayer namin, ‘yung unity ng family,” Elizabeth Tria said.
“Sana patuloy ang pagmamahalan sa aming pamilya,” Marciano, Elizabeth's husband, said.
Meanwhile, the Cachero family extended their New Year celebration by visiting Agoo’s Ecopark and bringing their leftover Media Noche feast.
“Masaya dito, at saka syempre, kompleto kami kaya okey talaga,” Clarita Cachero said.
The park’s scenic views and proximity to the beach made it a perfect destination for families.
San Fabian Beach in Pangasinan also drew numerous beachgoers with vehicles arriving from La Union, Pangasinan, and even Benguet.
“Masaya po dito at saka kompleto kaming pamilya,” May Macapagal, a visitor, said.
Authorities were on high alert due to strong waves typical during the Amihan season.
“’Yung dagat natin medyo malakas ang alon, kaya kailangan natin talaga bantayan. Nakikipag-coordinate tayo sa PDRRMO (Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council) para masigurong ligtas ang ating mga kababayan habang sila’y halimbawa gusto nilang maligo sa dagat,” PCOL Rollyfer Capoquian, Pangasinan Police Provincial Director, said.
