A 32-year-old farmer was killed after a grenade exploded at a native carnival or “peryahan” on New Year’s Eve in Matalam, North Cotabato.

According to the victim’s mother, her son dropped by at a store near the “peryahan” to access the internet through a piso WiFi vending machine when the explosion happened.

He was supposed to go home after.

He died while being transported to the hospital due to severe injuries.

“Base sa istorya sa akoang anak, wasak ang tiil, wasak ang dughan, ang lawas, ang nawong,” the victim’s mother said.

Police said the suspect is yet to be identified.

“Wala pa tayong nakalap na kung sino yung assailant kasi madilim kasi yung area. Walang nakakita kung sino talaga yun. Still investigating pa,” Matalam Municipal Police Station Deputy Chief, Lt. Dennis Fuentes, said.

The family is calling for justice.

“Kung naa siya’y konsensya, naa siya’y kaluoy, mo-surrender na lang siya,” the victim’s mother added.

The local government said two other civilians also sustained minor injuries and were given immediate medical attention.
