The town of Malita in Davao Occidental has been placed under a state of calamity due to flooding.
According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, the Malita Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said at least 26 barangays were affected by the bad weather brought about by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) last week.
More than 500 houses were also damaged.
The declaration of a state of calamity will allow the local government to release and utilize funds for assistance to residents affected.
With the declaration, a price freeze on basic commodities will also be implemented.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Davao Occidental said one died, 79 were injured, and two are missing due to the flooding, as of this writing.
More than 11,000 families were affected by flooding in the entire province.
According to the Office of the Civil Defense-Davao (OCD-11), some roads and bridges in the province that were damaged remain impassable, as of this writing, including the hanging bridge in Barangay Sangay, Malita; a barangay road in Talaguton, and a bridge in North Lamidan in Don Marcelino.
