Heavy rains on Sunday, December 29, 2024, flooded a barangay in Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte.

In a video uploaded by a netizen on social media, floodwaters reached waist-deep. At a portion of the road in Barangay Kulasihan, floodwaters almost reached the height of a man.

“Sige gyud og bundak ang ulan, kusog kaayo ang ulan kay milapaw man (ang tubig sa) among tulay diri sa Purok Dos kay culvert ra man gud na siya, gamay ra, naa’y sapa then naa’y suba. Kung magdungan ang baha sa sapa ug suba, mobaha gyud sa amoa,” Jenny Garaba, a resident, said.

Floodwaters subsided after nearly five hours.

At least five to eight houses were affected.

No one was reported injured during the flood.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) no longer deployed its personnel as the barangay was able to control the situation.

“Kaya ra man gud sa barangay. Ang barangay wala pud magtawag sa amoa nga magkinahanglan sila og mga responders,” MDRRMO Head, Ernest Valle, said.

Residents were urged to stay vigilant as rains are still likely to pour during afternoon to evening.

The state weather bureau PAGASA said the bad weather was due to intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
