An alleged leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) and another rebel were arrested in Davao City.
The 10th Infantry Division (10ID) said the rebel leader served as political instructor of the NPA’s Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.
The rebel leader was arrested by the police and military by virtue of an arrest warrant for alleged violation of the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act issued by a court in Compostela, Davao de Oro.
Another rebel identified as alias “Yassie” was also arrested with a caliber .45 pistol and a fragmentation grenade.
The two are now under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Davao (CIDG-11).
10ID commander, Major General Allan Hambala, lauded the operating units for the arrest of the two.
“The dwindling remnants of the SMRC are experiencing a leadership vacuum since Region XI was declared insurgency-free," Hambala said.
The military said four high-ranking NPA officials have been arrested in the last quarter of 2024 alone.
