A nine-year-old boy suffered injuries to his right hand after a firework accident in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.

Police said the boy was playing with a sparkler outside his home.

When it ignited he failed to release it, resulting in second-degree burn.

The child was taken to the Rural Health Unit immediately for treatment and is now in stable condition.

Authorities have advised the boy’s parents to supervise their children closely, especially during the holiday season when firework-related incidents are more common.

This marks Bacarra's first recorded firework-related injury this year.
