A 32-year-old man died after the car he was riding collided with an elf truck on the National Highway in Barangay Lang-ayan, Currimao, Ilocos Norte.

The victim was identified as Jayson Ross Alonzo, a resident of Barangay Quiling Sur, Batac City.

He was a passenger in a car driven by Patrolman John Mark Dela Cruz, 33, of the Highway Patrol Group in Cebu City.

According to police, the car attempted to overtake another vehicle but failed to notice the oncoming elf truck, resulting in a head-on collision.

Alonzo and the truck’s occupants, 35-year-old Felix Geronimo, the driver, and 51-year-old Pepito Reyes, the helper, sustained injuries.

Alonzo was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

“Nandoon po sila sa hospital... conscious naman po [sa] awa ng Diyos at tsaka ‘yung driver naman po ng elf truck, conscious naman po maliban lamang po na may tama po sa paa, nabalian po yata,” said PCapt. Melvin Soriano, Officer-in-Charge of the Currimao Police Station.

Police are continuing their investigation into the accident.

The families of those involved have yet to release a statement.
