A magnitude 5.6 earthquake shook parts of Northern Luzon at 10:56 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) traced the epicenter to Burgos, Ilocos Norte.

The quake was felt at Intensity V in Sinait and Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, and Sarrat, Ilocos Norte. Claveria, Cagayan, and Tubo, Abra experienced Intensity IV, while Lacub, Abra, and parts of Cagayan reported weaker tremors.

In Batac City, Ilocos Norte, people rushed out of markets, groceries, and other establishments in fear, crowding along highways for safety.

Vehicles halted temporarily as the tremor struck.

In Laoag City, closed circuit television (CCTV) footage captured the shaking of a building, leading to cracks in walls and debris falling from ceilings.
