Non-stop rain caused by the shear line and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) brought widespread flooding to parts of Aurora and Cagayan, forcing residents and motorists to navigate dangerous conditions.

In Barangay Marikit, Casiguran, Aurora, floodwaters reached knee-deep, forcing residents affected to move their belongings to higher ground.

Residents reported that water levels began rising around 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2024, after a river nearby overflowed.

They remain on alert, ready to evacuate if necessary.

In Dilasag, Aurora, some motorists braved the strong currents to cross flooded roads, while others carried their motorcycles or pushed tricycles through the water.

Local residents also waded through the flood to buy supplies for New Year, fearing the rain would continue and conditions would worsen.

Meanwhile, several overflow bridges in Cagayan became impassable this morning as rivers overflowed due to continuous rains.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the shear line, which forms when the northeast monsoon meets warm easterly winds from the Pacific Ocean, is responsible for the prolonged heavy rainfall.
