Prices of round fruits are expected to go up as the public gears up for the New Year celebration.
Part of the Filipino tradition is to display 12 round fruits on the table to attract luck and good fortune in the coming year, particularly in finances.
As is tradition, they also believe that buying a dozen round fruits can be a sign of completeness since there are 12 months in a year.
At the Bankerohan Public Market in Davao City, the prices of round fruits have started to increase.
Apples cost P10 to P25 depending on the size while a pack of “kiat-kiat” is now P50.
Ponkan and orange are sold at P10 and P20 per piece, respectively.
Strawberry apples are sold at P200 per kilo while the price of mangoes range from P100 to P160 per kilo.
Meanwhile, watermelon costs P40 to P45 per kilo while grapes cost P150 to P250 per kilo.
“Ang halin namo layo ra gyud kaayo sauna sa mga miaging tuig,” a vendor, Rasul Casan, said.
