A magnitude 5.3 earthquake rocked Agusan del Sur around 6:26 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2024.

The epicenter was located in Talacogon town.

The earthquake had a depth of 012 kilometers, and it was tectonic in origin.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), aftershocks are expected.

Intensity IV was felt in Bislig City and Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur

Intensity III was experienced in Gingoog City and the towns of Medina, Magsaysay, and Jasaan in Misamis Oriental; Nabunturan, Mabini, Monkayo, and Laak in Davao de Oro; and Barobo, Surigao del Sur.

Intensity II was felt in Maco, Davao de Oro; Cagwait, Surigao del Sur; Cagayan de Oro; Villanueva and Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental; and Kabacan and Matalam, Cotabato.

Meanwhile, Intensity I was experienced in Caraga, Davao Oriental; Davao City; and Antipas, Cotabato.

Aftershocks are expected, PHIVOLCS added.
