Kanlaon Volcano has continued to exhibit high level of unrest.

In the 12 a.m. advisory of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on December 26, 2024, two ash emission events were recorded that spanned from 59 minutes to 65 minutes long.

At least 20 volcanic earthquakes, including seven volcanic tremors that spanned from 29 minutes to 92 minutes long. 

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) flux emitted by Kanlaon Volcano was recorded at 6,014 tons a day on December 25, 2024. 

Thick plume reached about 400 meters tall, releasing continuous steam with occasional ash emission that drifted west, west-northwest, and southwest.

Volcano edifice is inflated, PHIVOLCS further stated. 

Alert Level 3 (intensified unrest/magmatic unrest) prevails over Kanlaon Volcano.
