A woman died while 14 others were injured after the pickup truck they were riding crashed into the center island in Mabini, Davao de Oro on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024.

Police said the victims, who are all relatives, were supposed to go to the beach in Davao Oriental when the accident happened.

““Coming from Maco going to Davao Oriental, nawalan ng kontrol ang driver, binangga niya yung center island, pagbangga, tumilapon lahat sa may likod niya,” Mabino Municipal Police Station Chief, Major Churchill Pablo Angog Jr., said.

The woman died on the spot while the others, including the driver, were rushed to the hospital.

“Pag nasa highway talaga, maintain lang ang speed yun kasi talagang sa initial na tingin, ang bilis ng takbo, yung sa mga pickup, ang likod, hindi yan intended para sa tao, cargo lang dapat yun, yung nangyari don, ang dami-dami pang karga,” Angog added.

Should the victims decide to sue the driver who is also their relative, the driver will face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injury, and damage to property.
