A 52-year-old man died after he was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the national highway in Cagayan de Oro dawn on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024.  

According to the Traffic Unit of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), the 24-year-old rider also sustained minor injuries.  

The victim did not reach the hospital alive.  

The motorcycle also hit a pickup truck parked beside the road.  

“Kani daw pedestrian, hesitant daw siya mutabok dayun according sa iyaha, ang iyang dagan naa sa 50 to 70 so imbes mo-menor siya, nagpadayun siya muna naigo niya ang pedestrian,” COCPO Traffic Unit Investigator, Patrolman Jay-ar Caiña, said.  

The rider reportedly admitted that he was under the influence of alcohol at that time.  

He will likely face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.  

“Reminders nako sa tanan daghan na kayo og complain aning mga ga-drag race sa kadalanan kaning dalan dili mani siya pang racing nga dalan kay daghan gagamit sa dalan,” Caiña added.  

Meanwhile, four vehicles figured in an accident on CM Recto Avenue corner Corrales Street. 

The vehicles involved include a taxi, jeep-type vehicle, a motorcycle, and another car.  

Investigator said the four vehicles were traveling in same direction when the jeep-type vehicle hit the car and those vehicles behind bumped into the first two vehicles in front.  

The motorcycle rider was brought to the hospital and is already safe, as of this writing.
