A security guard who was escorting a bank teller died when robbers attacked them on their way to deposit money in Compostela, Davao de Oro.
The teller was bringing the money they have picked up from a commercial establishment when the suspects appeared as they were walking towards a car.
In a video footage, a man is seen pointing a gun at the guard before the teller could get in the car. The guard tried to fight the suspect as the teller managed to slip into the vehicle but a gunshot hit the guard in the chest, killing him in an instant. Another suspect snatched the bag with the money from the teller.
The suspects then took the guard’s shotgun and escaped on board a motorcycle.
Captain Jusibelle Abellon, spokesperson of the Davao de Oro Police Provincial Office, said it is possible that the suspects have monitored the victims’ routine as they would reportedly pick the money up every day.
“Dako kaayo ang possibility nga na-monitor na siya kay daily routine na ang pag-pick up sa kwarta and then naa gyud ni mura’g natiktikan na kay bale ang ilang daily routine sa bangko para magkuha og kwarta sa mao nga establishment,” Abellon said.
As of this writing, authorities are pursuing the suspects who carted away P3.7 million.
“Naa pa’y other nga mga mata in the surroundings. Gani, gi-confirm sa atong investigator nga katong security guard (from an establishment) gitaparan pud siya, giingnan pud siya nga dili siya mag-apil, dili pud siya molihok kay gitutukan pud siya og baril,” Abellon added.
Investigators said the suspects belong to an organized crime group that may have come from another region.
Authorities urged those who have information about the suspects to coordinate with the police.
In a statement, the bank management said it is already coordinating with authorities and will provide the necessary support to the family of the guard who died.
