A 75-year-old man died after he was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road in Barangay Maningding, Santa Barbara, Pangasinan.

The victim was identified as Gabriel Ballesteros.

He was reportedly on his way to buy cigarettes when he met the accident.

According to the police, the motorcycle driver failed to see the man because the road was not lit well.

"Bibilli ata siya ng sigarilyo sa tawid… nung tumatawid siya, hindi siya napansin nung nakamotor kasi mabilis din ang takbo… ganun talaga, wala namang may gusto nung aksidente," Susan, the victim's wife, said.

The driver was wearing a helmet, a reflectorized vest, and had complete documents.

"Kumpleto naman sa papeles yung nakabangga, may helmet din at vest… talagang hindi niya rin napansin yung tumatawid na biktima," PLTCOL. Michael Datuin, Chief of the Santa Barbara Police Station, said.

Ballesteros was rushed to a hospital nearby but succumbed to head injuries while being treated.

Police reminded motorists to drive cautiously, especially at night, to avoid similar accidents.

"Paalala namin sa mga bumibiyahe ng gabi, laging maging maingat lalo na sa mga daan na medyo madilim," Datuin said.

Both parties reportedly agreed to settle the matter amicably, with no charges filed against the motorcycle driver.
