The local government of Mangaldan has implemented a ban on pedicabs and tricycles at the public market area.

The decision was made after overcrowding was observed at the market, which authorities said, poses a risk to both shoppers and vendors.

To ensure that the ban will be followed, an Anti-Colorum Task Force was formed, involving Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) presidents from the town.

“Pinagbabawal namin ang pagpapasok para mabigyan ng espasyo yung mga mamimili… may oras naman po na ibinibigay para magpasok ng mga paninda mula ala-una hanggang alas tres ng hapon,” Gerardo Ydia, Chief of Public Order and Safety Office (POSO)-Mangaldan, said.

Despite the restriction, drivers are willing to comply with the new directive.

“Kung ito ang ipapatupad nila, wala kaming magagawa kundi sumunod,” Rodrigo Soriano, a pedicab driver, said.

Demarcation lines for street vendors have also been repainted to guide them in setting up their stalls without blocking pathways for shoppers.

“Nasusunod naman po yung linya… mas maluwag na po ngayon at maayos para sa mga namamalengke,” Jocelyn Vargas, a vendor, said.

Ydia said it is important to prioritize the safety of shoppers.

“I-priority po natin ang ating mga mamimili… at sa mga mamimili ingatan natin ang ating mga gamit lalo na kung kayo ay nasa siksikan na lugar,” he said.

These measures are seen as necessary preparations for the influx of shoppers this holiday season.
