Over 30 evacuees in La Castellana town in the Province of Negros Occidental were reported to have experienced stomach upset after consuming food donated by a private group.
One of them is Susan Antara who said she was taken to the health center for treatment.
“Oo, dinala nga ako sa sentro. Pumunta ako doon. Sabi nila, i-dextrose [intravenous fluid] ako,” Antara said.
The incident has already been investigated by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of La Castellana.
In a message by Mayor Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan on her official social media page, she confirmed that there were evacuees who experienced stomachache after eating “menudo” (a type of viand with pork as main ingredient) donated by a private group.
Following the incident, the mayor appealed to donors to coordinate with the Donation Management Team for monitoring.
Another aerial survey in the vicinity of Kanlaon Volcano on December 17, 2024 was carried out by the Office of Civil Defense. Based on the aerial survey, PHIVOLCS saw no new vents at the crater of the volcano.
Vents are openings for the escape of gas or liquid or for the relief of pressure.
“Ang na-check natin for aerial survey kung mayroong bago after the eruption. Wala namang bagong vents,” Engr. Mari Andylene Quintia, resident volcanologist at Kanlaon Volcano Observatory of DOST-PHIVOLCS, disclosed.
Meanwhile, because of the inclement weather, the LGU of La Carlota City intensifies preparedness for possible muddy stream and lahar flow.
“Ang lahar so far wala pang nai-report. Sinusunod lang namin ang hazard map ng PHIVOLCS sa lahar flow,” Mayor Rex Jalando-on said.
The LGU has also pitched outdoor tents to accommodate additional evacuees.
