A customer of an establishment that offers liquor sustained an open wound on the neck when another customer bashed a bottle and slit a section of his neck using the broken bottle.
The incident happened in Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City on December 14, 2024 at around 11 p.m.
The victim was said to be alone having a drink and singing in a videoke joint. However, two youngsters occupying a separate table, believed to be drunk, sat beside him, and attacked him.
According to Jojo Alegado, owner of the establishment, there was no altercation and commotion prior to the incident.
Alegado surmised that the incident was a case of "paregla" (waylaying a person for no apparent reason).
The victim applied pressure on the wound with the use of a cloth, while the owner of the establishment assisted him to the hospital and helped him in his medical expenses.
The authorities said the incident was not on the police blotter, and that they learned it only after the wife of the victim asked for a report as a requirement to settle the hospital bills.
Afterwhich, they launched an investigation by checking on CCTV footage.
Police Lt. Col. Christian Torres, spokesperson of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said that despite the incident, he considers it as an isolated case.
