Authorities seized illegal cigarettes worth P1.7 million at a checkpoint in Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija.
A total of 147 boxes of various imported cigarettes, valued at P1,764,000 were confiscated for lack of supporting papers.
Authorities said the cigarettes were transported from another province and were supposed to be distributed to different locations in Nueva Ecija.
The driver and his helper were arrested. They are now under the custody of the Zaragoza Police Station and are facing charges.
