A security guard in Cagayan de Oro was injured after he was shot by a policeman he allegedly attacked during an investigation into a road accident.

Authorities said the guard allegedly attacked the policeman out of nowhere with a knife while PCpl. Irvin Kiel Montos was looking into the accident.

“Sa kalit lamang, kining usa ka indibidwal walay igong rason, mi-atake sa investigator Cpl. Montos nga dunay hinagiban kutsilyo,” Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Evan Viñas, said.

The police officer reportedly ran away but the security guard still chased him, forcing the cop to fire at the guard, hitting him in the shoulder.

The security guard was brought to the hospital and is now in safe condition, as of this writing.

Authorities recovered the security guard’s knife.

Police said the security guard was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at that time.

“Kadtong maong suspetsado, samtang sa maong insidente ubos siya sa impluwensya sa ilimnon makahubog,” Viñas added.

The police officer was placed under restrictive custody while investigation into the incident continues.
