Authorities seized at least eight improvised firecrackers, called locally as “lantaka,” on the coastal road in Davao City.
Police said the supposed minors using the firecrackers escaped during the operation.
“Lantaka” is among those covered by the firecracker ban in the city as this is considered a pyrotechnic device.
“Atong iklaro sa mga ginikanan nga dili nato pasagdan ang atong mga anak nga maghimo anang lantaka and other materials nga maka-cause og injury kay mubalik ra pud… basi’g magmahay mo nga dako og damage ang nabuhat sa inyong anak. So, badlungon nalang nato daan,” Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Spokesperson, Captain Hazel Tuazon, said.
Police also urged the public to report those who are using firecrackers.
Meanwhile, vehicles transporting firecrackers that pass through Davao City to other areas that are not implementing a ban will be escorted by the police until at the boundary of Davao City.
“Dapat naay documents kay kung walay documents nga ikapakita sa atong security personnel sa control borders, automatic i-confiscate na siya,” Tuazon added.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is also monitoring and inspecting watercrafts to ensure that no illegal goods could sneak into the city.
“Mandatory gyud ni siya nga from everytime before mudepart ang usa ka barko o motorbanca, naga inspect ta ana. So lakip na ang mga ginawabal nga items, illegal goods isa pud na sa atong ginalanataw,” Ensign Winston Gonalzes of the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao said.
