Zamboanga City Mayor John Dalipe has ordered an investigation into the incident during the 2024 Council Scout Jamboree where three boy scouts died and 12 others were injured after they were electrocuted.
The jamboree was just unfolding at the Climaco Freedom Park in Pasonanca when the incident happened.
A Critical Incident Management Task Group was activated to look into the incident.
"We would like to look at all angles and see if there is any liability of all the parties involved in this event,” Zamboanga City Police Director, Col. Kimberly Molitas, was quoted as saying.
The boy scouts were electrocuted after a part of the tent they were transferring touched a live wire accidentally during the opening day of the jamboree.
What was supposed to be a four-day event - from December 12 to 15, 2024 - was called off and all participants were sent home.
The local government provided assistance to the families of those who died and were injured.
BSP STATEMENT
In a statement, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) said it is looking into the details of the incident in order to revisit and strengthen existing policies and procedures in the conduct of scouting activities.
“We mourn the loss of our three young Scouts from Zamboanga City Council. This tragic event has brought immense grief to the Scouting community, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones during this very difficult time,” BSP said.
“The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) remains deeply committed to the safety and well-being of all our Scouts. We follow strict safety protocols and processes in the planning and execution of all Scouting activities, including jamborees, to ensure that participants are safe at all times,” it added.
BSP also implemented a moratorium on all outdoor scouting activities and urged its local councils to promote scouting activities in ‘controlled environments/setting.’
