More than 100 families fled their homes in Tagum City following a flash flood brought by heavy rains on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the residents affected were from Barangay Magdum.
According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, floodwaters entered several houses in the area.
The Search and Rescue team of CDRRMO has facilitated a forced evacuation to ensure the safety of residents.
The families affected are staying temporarily at the evacuation center in Saludares Elementary School and they were provided with necessary assistance by the local government.
Citing state weather bureau PAGASA, CDRRMO said thunderstorms will likely to develop over Davao region within 12 hours, based on the thunderstorm watch issued at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 12.
The bad weather experienced in Tagum City and other areas in Mindanao is caused by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), based on the heavy rainfall warning issued at 8 a.m. on Thursday, December 12.
Residents are advised to be vigilant and monitor the weather condition.
