The family of drug trafficking convict Mary Jane Veloso in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija is set to visit her in Indonesia from December 16 to 18, 2024.
It will be the first time they will see each other in 14 years after Veloso was arrested in 2010 and sentenced to death for drug trafficking after authorities in Indonesia found over two kilograms of heroin in her luggage.
Veloso has since maintained her innocence, claiming her recruiter gave her the bag without disclosing its contents.
The compassionate visit, facilitated by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), will include Veloso’s parents and two children.
The family continues to plead for clemency.
“Sana po 'yung anak ko, eh 'wag nang ikulong. Bigyan na po ng clemency 'yung aking anak kasi matagal naman na pong nagdusa. Sana ito na po ang ibigay nilang Christmas [gift] sa amin,” Celia Veloso, Mary Jane's mother, said.
Earlier, the family received multiple forms of support from the government as they await Veloso’s possible return to the Philippines.
