The Davao City Council has approved on third and final reading an ordinance scrapping the business permit requirement for delivery riders in the city.

During its regular session on Thursday, December 5, 2024, majority of the members of the legislative body favored the move to amend the 2017 Revenue Code of the city.

The amendment aims to remove the provision requiring delivery riders to pay P3,000 to P5,000 business tax and just require them to pay P125 annual occupation permit fee.

The riders have been pushing for the amendment since 2020 as they maintained that they are not business owners to be required to secure a business permit.

Davao City has more than 8,000 delivery riders.
