Tuguegarao City is experiencing severe flooding, with several barangays inundated and nearly 100 families seeking refuge in evacuation centers.

Continuous heavy rain for two days caused by the prevailing shear line led to the Pinacanauan River overflowing.

This has affected areas in Barangays Anafunan and Centro 10, forcing residents to evacuate.

“Marami din ‘yung nasa low-lying areas. Lahat sila affected kaya kailangan nila pumunta sa evacuation center,” Mariano Baylon Jr., Chairman of Barangay Centro10, said.

In response to the flooding, authorities have closed the Pinacanauan Road and the Capatan Overflow Bridge to motorists temporarily.

Classes from kindergarten to high school were suspended due to the orange rainfall warning issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

“For those who don’t understand ‘yung paulit-ulit naming sinasabi, kami ang collateral damage, dito ang bagsak palagi ng tubig,” Tuguegarao City Mayor Maila Ting-Que said.

Heavy vehicles can no longer pass through the Capacuan-Salongsong Bridge in Sta. Praxedes, Cagayan after its foundation collapsed.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said the bridge’s foundation was swept away by floodwaters.

Flooding has also affected the Baculud Bridge in Ilagan City, Isabela.

Despite the rising waters, some individuals, including Armando Simon, continue to fish in the flooded areas.

“Sinubukan pa rin ko kahit maulan dahil kailangan kong kumita para sa pamilya,” Simon said.
