Farmers in Mangaldan, Pangasinan are still struggling to recover from the devastation caused by the series of storms.
Eddie Edor, a farmer from Barangay Lanas, lost all of his crops during the first planting season due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
"Hindi pa [naka recover], Sir. Ganito 'yung nangyari. Walang-wala pa rin. Susubukan ulit ngayong cropping na ito," Edor said, who is trying again with the second planting season.
Severe Tropical Storm Kristine flattened the rice fields of another farmer, Jojie Tubera.
Video footage also revealed rice plants in his fields submerged.
After losing a significant portion of his crop, Tubera harvested eight sacks, much of which was damaged.
"Sana tulungan kaming farmers, kasi minsan nasisira mga pananim namin. Wala kaming nakukuha, kawawa kami," Tubera said.
Nearly 700 farmers in the town have been affected heavily by the storms, with the municipal agriculture office reporting over P10 million in crop losses.
The office has continued to provide support through rehabilitation programs, including seed distribution and crop insurance.
"Ang number one [na] naitutulong sa farmer ay pagbibigay ng rehabilitation, like seeds at sa crop insurance din," Daisy Dela Cruz, an agricultural technologist from the Mangaldan Municipal Agriculture Office, said.
Farmers have already planted their crops for the second season, hoping to harvest them by the end of February 2025.
They pray that no more disasters strike so they can recover from their losses.
