The Municipal Government of Opol, Misamis Oriental is set to implement a 60 kilometer per hour (kph) speed limit on the national highway and a 20 kph speed limit on interior roads.

Mayor Jay Francis Bago said the implementation of speed limit for vehicles aims to minimize road accidents.

The local government will put up signages before implementing the policy.

The local government has CCTV cameras that can detect a vehicle’s speed but is yet to acquire speed guns.

“So if you question kung pagpara sa inyo, we can show you the CCTV and then definitely (ma-penalty) gyud mo, so better sundon na lang ninyo kaysa maglalis pamo sa amo,” Bago added.

Several drivers favor the speed limit.
