Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is set to return to the City Hall on Monday, December 9, 2024 after undergoing medical operation.
In a Zoom conference on Thursday, December 4, 2024, Mayor Treñas told Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, in jest, that the vice mayor must ease up on Monday for his return.
“Kay Vice Mayor, hanggang Lunes ka na lang ha? Kasi babalik na ako dyan at babawiin ko na sa yo (ang aking pwesto),” the mayor said with a laugh.
According to Treñas, his condition improved after the removal of the tube and bag connected to his bile duct following a medical operation in November 2024.
The mayor was on medical leave beginning in September 2024.
He announced that he is able to walk again sans the walker for an assistive device.
“Nakakalakad na ako. For so long, nagwo-walker ako, pero ngayon baston na lang,” he said.
Treñas also said that upon his return, he will immediately meet with the department heads and councilors.
Treñas marked his 68th birth anniversary on December 4, 2024 with the employees of the Local Government Unit of Iloilo City through a virtual platform.
He announced of the plan to extend until 2026 the 40-percent discount on real property tax in the city. The extension is geared at helping businessmen and landowners.
He said he will submit parameters for the amendatory ordinance at the City Council to make the extension legitimate.
“Kahapon ng hapon, nakipag-usap na ako kay Atty. Rex Sarabia para mapaghandaan niya sa kanyang komitiba at sa Lunes, I will meet with Vice Mayor and councilors. We will be talking about it so we will approve it at the earliest possible time,” Treñas said.
Further, he announced that regular employees of the city government will receive their Collective Negotiation Agreement (CNA) incentive worth P30,000 anytime between December 15, 2024 to December 31, 2024.
The CNA incentive is given annually to regular employees based on an order of the Department of Budget and Management.
It was learned that this is the first time for the LGU to be giving the maximum amount.
Furthermore, Treñas explained on the delay in the completion of Arevalo, Jaro, and La Paz Public Market projects because of tight procurement processes.
