A 61-year-old woman died after she was hit by a bus as she was heading home from church in Dagupan City.

The victim was identified as Liberty Abalos.

Abalos was walking along the Mayombo-Caranglaan Road when a bus, entering the terminal, hit her.

"Masakit talaga sa aming mga anak na maulila kami... sabi ng driver at conductor, blind spot daw kasi sa area na 'yun," Robelito Abalos, the victim's son, said.

Liberty was rushed to the hospital but she was declared dead on arrival.

Based on police investigation, the bus had crossed the road and the driver reportedly failed to notice the victim walking, only stopping after the terminal security guard signaled.

"Ikinalulungkot natin na [dahil] sa matinding tama sa pedestrian ay binawian siya ng buhay," PCapt. Renan Dela Cruz of the Pangasinan PPO, said.

The bus driver now faces charges.

Authorities continue to urge motorists to drive with caution, especially during the holiday season.
