A closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed that five motorcycles parked at the roadside in Barangay Taft North, Mandurriao District, Iloilo City caught fire.

Smoke billowed from the seat of one of the motorcycles until flames engulfed the entire vehicle. The fire spread quickly to other vehicles, including a car and a tricycle, beside the burning motorcycle.

“Noong una, umuusok pa lang hanggang sa umapoy na talaga. Kaya tumawag kami ng bombero,” a witness named “Boy” said.

Based on investigation done by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), it is possible that the fire was caused by the motorcycle’s faulty connection or that the motorcycle was not switched off.

BFP personnel reiterated that owners should ensure their motorcycles are in good condition before embarking on a trip, or to make sure the engine is shut off while being parked.

“Always check ang atin ngang mga motor before and after ng biyahe, (lalo na) ang BLOWBAGETS [to mean battery, lights, oil, water, brake, air, gas, engine, tire, and self],” FO1 King Angeles of BFP Jaro said.

The fire left behind damages worth approximately P160,000.
