As heavy rains brought by the shear line continued over the weekend, floods and landslides affected several parts of Bicol, forcing 268 families to evacuate in Sorsogon City alone.
According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Chief Luisito Mendoza, the families came from at least nine barangays in the city, with the West district bearing the brunt.
In a report by GMA News Online, flooding reached neck-deep in Sorsogon on December 1, 2024. Other provinces like Camarines Sur, Masbate, and Catanduanes were also affected by the continuous rain.
The regional Office of Civil Defense earlier reported that over 200 families evacuated across Bicol — at least 62 families in Camarines Sur, 61 families in Sorsogon, 57 families in Masbate, and 46 families in Catanduanes.
The disaster also claimed one life in Labo, Camarines Norte, where a landslide buried a man and his wife, according to another report by GMA News Online.
The man was declared dead on arrival after being rushed to the hospital.
Three others remain missing, including two senior citizens from Cabusao, Camarines Sur, who were swept away while crossing a flooded spillway on an electric bike.
Assessment on infrastructure and agricultural damage continues, as of this writing.
Relief goods have been provided to the families affected, and local authorities are focusing on repairs as many homes remain uninhabitable.
